HP NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

01/25/10 - The USA Volleyball National HP Tryouts will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 (Girls) and Sunday, March 7, 2010 (Boys) at UH-Gym 1. Registration will be available through the USA Volleyball HP website sometime soon.

01/25/10 - We will also be conducting a Coaches Workshop on Sunday, 03/07/10, right after the boys tryout. The workshop will be open and free to all Aloha Region coaches. Ryan Scudder, Tommy Lake, and other coaches who attended last week's HP Coaches Clinic in Colorado Springs will share information presented by Hugh McCutcheon (USA National Women's Head Volleyball Coach) and his staff. More information to come...

01/25/10 - The 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championship Tournament (July 27-31, 2010 in Sevierville, TN) has been confirmed and the Aloha Region intends to compete in at least 5 divisions. Players interested in trying out for the team should check this webpage for upcoming announcements. We are currently gathering more information to set regional tryouts, a tentative travel schedule, estimated costs, and coaching staff. Stay tuned for more information.

01/10/10 - Calling all interested coaches! The Aloha Region Junior Committee is currently accepting applications for Regional High Performance coaches. Applicants must meet the following general criteria:

  • Must be a current member of the Aloha Region.
  • Must be at least CAP I certified or IMPACT certified and working toward CAP certification.
  • Must be available to attend practices prior to the HP Championships and travel with the team to the HP Championship Tournament. Tentative travel dates are July 24-August 1, 2010.
  • Highly recommended to participate in the USA Volleyball national HP tryouts scheduled for Saturday, 03/06/10 and Sunday, 03/07/10.
  • Highly recommended to participate in the Aloha Region HP tryouts (date/time TBD).

Please email Cindy Flynn for more information or submit application and resume via email or mail by Saturday, 03/13/10. Further details to follow.

12/21/09-The 3rd edition of INSIDE HP is now available and posted. Check out the December 2009 issue to see the Aloha Region members who have been invited to the Holiday Camp.

11/12/09-The 2nd edition of INSIDE HP is now available and posted. This month's issue features Micah Christenson. Micah was a member of the USA Boys Youth National Team at the High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale this past July. Check out the November 2009 issue now!

10/15/09-Check out the newest USA Volleyball publication, INSIDE HP. This is a monthly newsletter that will feature all aspects of the USA Volleyball National and Regional High Performance Programs. This month's issue features an article by one of our own, Erik Shoji. Check out the October 2009 issue now!

07/26/09 - Congratulations to all the players on the Aloha Region High Performance teams. The final Aloha Region standings for the HP Championships are as follows:

  • BIY = 3rd /12 teams
  • BNY = 5th /10 teams
  • GIY = 8th/18 teams
  • GNY = 14th/14 teams
  • GNS = 13th/24 teams

Special recognition goes out to the Boys International Youth team that took 3rd in their division and to Reid Pangelinan who received the Best Server award. Click HERE for final results.

07/22/09 - Today was the first day of competition and this is how we faired:

  • BIY = 2 wins
  • GIY = 1 win / 1 loss
  • BNY = 2 wins
  • GNY = 2 losses
  • GNS = 1 win / 1 loss

07/21/09 - We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday morning after a 9 hour flight from Honolulu to Atlanta and another 2 hours from Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale. Amazingly, all players had enough energy for a 2 hour practice after settling in to the hotel. It was a long day...

The tournament schedule will be posted on the HP Championships website...click here. The BNY, GNY, and GNS teams will be playing their first match tomorrow at 8:30am. The BIY and GIY teams will be playing their first match at 10:15am.

  • BIY = Boys International Youth (Coach: John Ing)
  • GIY = Girls International Youth (Coach: Jenic Tumaneng)
  • BNY = Boys National Youth (Coach: Daryl Tamashiro)
  • GNY = Girls National Youth (Coach: Reagan Agena)

07/12/09 - The revised meeting/practice schedule is posted above. Please note change to the meeting and uniform distribution date.

Also, please be reminded that all medical release forms must be notarized and turned in as soon as possible. We will have a notary at practice on the following dates/times:

  • Sunday, 07/12/09, Farrington Gym, 2:30pm-3:30pm
  • Wednesday, 07/15/09, McKinley Gym, 8:00pm-9:00pm

06/21/09 - CONGRATULATIONS to the 23 players representing the Aloha Region on various USA High Performance rosters. For a list of players, click HERE.

06/09/09 - CONGRATULATIONS to Erik Shoji, Brad Lawson, and Tri Bourne for being selected to the USAV Men's Junior National Team. The team will compete in the 2009 FIVB World Championships on July 31-August 9 in Pune, India. Erik and Brad currently play for Stanford and Tri plays for USC. Way to go guys!
